O’Brien Was Diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer in 2019 and Underwent Treatment

While Casey O’Brien was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in 2019, he has been in remission since 2020. In a Twitter post, O’Brien shared that his cancer has returned.

O’Brien Says He Is ‘Scared’ But Will Keep Fighting

In the emotional tweet, O’Brien says he is “scared,” but that he will keep fighting. O’Brien says he will soon start his eighth round of chemotherapy.

O’Brien played for the Gophers from 2015 to 2018, starting 37 games at center. He was a two-time All-Big Ten selection and was named the team’s Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2018.

After his diagnosis, O’Brien was forced to retire from football. He has since become an advocate for cancer awareness and has raised money for cancer research.
