Amazon continues data center expansion in Virginia

Company purchases land in Gainesville for new complex

New data center will be located on Wellington Road, near two other facilities

Amazon has purchased another plot of land in Virginia's Prince William County for a new data center complex. The company purchased the land at 5845 Wellington Road on April 25 from Gainesville. The data center complex will be located at the intersection of Catharpin Rd and Route 55, within two miles of two other data centers operated by Amazon. The new data center will be used to support Amazon's growing cloud computing business. Amazon has been expanding its data center footprint in Virginia in recent years, as the state offers a number of advantages for data center operators, including low energy costs and a skilled workforce.

The purchase of the land in Prince William County is the latest in a series of expansions by Amazon in Virginia. In 2019, the company announced plans to build a new data center in Loudoun County, and in 2020, it announced plans to build a new data center in Fairfax County. Amazon now operates a total of 13 data centers in Virginia, making it one of the largest data center operators in the state.

The new data center in Prince William County is expected to be completed in 2023. It will be used to support Amazon's growing cloud computing business. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is one of the world's largest cloud computing providers, and it is used by millions of businesses and individuals around the world.
